Whitney Russell

Socialist feminist, labor organizer & political anthropologist

Dr. Whitney Russell is a professor of Social Sciences in California's Central Valley. She received her PhD in Anthropology from the University of California San Diego in 2021, and received the Dissertation Award from the Association for Feminist Anthropology in 2020. Her research has focused on gender, development, and politics in North India where she conducts research with a group of women living on the rural edges of Delhi.

In California, Whitney is the Chair of the North Central Valley DSA chapter, and the coordinator of the North Central Valley Worker Organizing Committee. This group teaches people how to organize and secure their rights at work, no matter the industry.

She would like to see an International Women's Day that honors its socialist roots and speaks to the unique forms of socialist feminist organizing that women are doing every day, from California to India and everywhere in between.
