Philippine's national rugby union team the Volcanoes mark IWD
Sporting groups worldwide are showing their support for International Women's Day (IWD) by celebrating their women athletes and promoting inclusion across the industry.
The Philippines Rugby Union women's team, the Volcanoes, stepped forward to #InspireInclusion in the lead up to IWD on March 8.
Celebrating women athletes in its community
Marking IWD, Philippine Volcanoes shared a video collage [pictured above] of the talented women in its community, set against a vibrant backdrop of the iconic IWD purple.
Alongside the collage, Philippine Volcanoes also shared their IWD message for the 2024 campaign: "Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, & inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #InspireInclusion."
A powerhouse in Asian Women’s rugby
The National Women's Program is currently growing into an explosive rugby force in Asia. A developing team that has overcome huge challenges, the Philippine Volcanoes boasts impressive results over a short period of time.
Making a debut appearance in the inaugural prestigious Hong Kong Sevens in 2011 and a Bronze medal finish at the 2015 South East Asia Games, the Philippine Volcanoes aims to be a powerhouse in Asian Women’s rugby.
The Volcanoes continue their rise in Asian rugby, not only as a recognizable team on the field, but a team that is also very popular among its fans and the general public, off the field.
Celebrate IWD with your sports team
Whether playing in friendly games or competitive leagues, IWD is a great time to rally your sports teams to #InspireInclusion both on and off the field.
Share your IWD sporting celebrations, whatever form they take, om social media using the hashtags #InspireInclusion and #IWD2024.
Let's score some goals for women's rights!
