We must all be part of the conversation

Professor Edward Peck, Vice Chancellor, Nottingham Trent University

 IWD 2020

"Equality is pivotal to the success of an organisation. As Vice-Chancellor I have made clear that advancing gender equality is not optional at Nottingham Trent University. More than my strong and abiding personal commitment, a diverse and inclusive environment, where all colleagues are valued for who they are and the contributions they make, are core imperatives within our 2020-25 Strategic Plan.

We champion an environment where the creativity and voice of all our colleagues are both encouraged and heard. We seek to nurture relationships built on respect and integrity.

In line with this year’s #EachForEqual theme, we have launched a funding scheme that supports the research activities of new parents returning to academic roles. We have increased paid paternity leave to encourage and support the progressive shifts in society in recognition of the roles of parenthood. We have seen a decrease in our median gender pay gap. I am proud that NTU has achieved an Athena SWAN award. But we are not complacent; there is still much more to do.

Issues being raised through #EachForEqual are fundamental to the way in which we all must strive to improve our workplaces, whether public or private, large or small. We must all be part of the conversation about gender equality. #EachForEqual is a message that recognises that equality is everyone’s business.
