Striving for equity in education

Ed Marsh, Chief Executive Officer, The Tutor Trust

 IWD 2024

At Tutor Trust, we not only aim to #InspireInclusion through our work supporting young people through tutoring, but in every aspect of our organisation.

We have recently established an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion group to ensure that we are placing inclusion at the forefront of everything that we do.

We pride ourselves on having women in leadership roles across the whole organisation, from our Executive Director and Co-Founder Abigail [pictured above] to our strong contingent of female tutors, who act as inspiring role models to the hundreds of girls we work with across the North of England every year.

Co-Founder & Executive Director, Abigail Shapiro says:

"When we began Tutor Trust as a proudly Northern charity 12 years ago, inclusion was at the very heart of the idea. This International Women’s Day, we’re so proud to be continuing to #InspireInclusion in everything that we do."

"As we’ve seen so much over the last few years, young people in the North of England have been disproportionately negatively impacted by issues such as the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. A 2022 Girl Guiding survey showed that girls in the North of England feel less happy, confident, and safe than their peers in the South. As an organisation, we strive for greater equity in education, and girls across the UK should feel that they have access to the same opportunities, regardless of postcode."
