Do you know what coercive control is?  What types of control people are subjected to? How it can impact someone’s life?

Would you recognise it was coercive and controlling behaviour?

“They controlled when I could have a bath, wear make-up, brush my teeth, get out of bed in the morning.”                                                                                                                                    ”I wasn’t allowed to see my family, leave the house, go to the shop or be alone.”                                                                                                                                                                                      “They said they would tell my family and friends about my gender identity even though I hadn’t.”                                                                                                                                                    “I couldn’t speak to the opposite sex at work – they accused me of having affairs all the time.”

These are the voices and words of people who have been subjected to coercive control.

Voices training session will look at:

How coercive control fits into the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

What the term ‘Coercive Control’ means and its definition.

Increasing awareness of coercive control by examining different types – technology, males, suicide, LGBTQ community, animal abuse, economic and financial, over 55s.

The signs and discuss examples of coercive control.

How coercive control can show escalating risk.

This will be a session that provides theory, examples and lived experience.  It can lead onto other sessions about risk assessment, examining how it is used for a specific group or in specific ways in more detail, and sessions that offer the chance to hear the voices of survivors and speak to them directly.

It is suitable for those who have already been on domestic abuse awareness training or those with an understanding of different types of domestic abuse.
