When Fear Becomes Violence: Breaking the Global Patterns of Control, Hidden Harm, and Gendered Exploitation

What we call violence is often fear weaponized. The work of justice is to disarm fear before it harms.

This International Women’s Day, join global leaders, advocates, researchers, and community members for a powerful virtual conversation exploring how fear, uncertainty, and perceived threat can activate patterns of control and hidden harm, and what it will take to break those cycles.

Across borders and communities, violence against women takes many forms, from intimate partner abuse to trafficking, coercive control, and systemic exploitation.

While methods may differ, the underlying dynamics are strikingly similar.

Together, we will examine the psychological, structural, and cultural forces that sustain gender-based violence, and spotlight survivor-centered, trauma-informed solutions grounded in dignity and justice.

This conversation will explore:

• Understanding how fear fuels systems of control

• Recognizing hidden forms of gender-based harm

• The mental health impacts of silence and stigma

• Building community-based, cross-sector solutions

• Advancing survivor-centered justice and global accountability
