 January 24, 2023

Australian charity Hands Across the Water is calling on its community to #EmbraceEquity for International Women's Day and beyond.

Valuing the importance of equity

Reinforcing the importance of IWD's #EmbraceEquity campaign theme, Hands Across the Water commented: "This year the theme is Embrace Equity. International Women’s Day is more than just a day to celebrate the achievements of women. Because we work with disadvantaged children and young adults full stop, we believe and recognise the importance of equity across all areas of our work, both here in Australia and in Thailand. International Women’s Day is an opportunity for us to share our passion and the excitement that comes from valuing and supporting differences. Because we know that each child and young adult in our care is unique. Each one is different. And each one deserves an equal world."

"Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge this equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity," said the charity,

Celebrating what makes each child unique

Hands Across the Water

Hands Across the Water embraces the young women and men achieving within its communities. These young adults are working hard towards their goals, and the charity celebrates and encourages their efforts to see their lives become one of choice, not chance.

Investing in the future of the next generation transforms the world. Creating opportunities for children and young people, particularly girls, helps forge gender equality.

Access to education for girls earns them higher incomes as adults, which enables them to create a better life for themselves and their families. Girls with a good education can also better participate in society, which strengthens global economies and ensures equity for all.

Hands Across the Water helps transform the futures of the next generation. The charity provides underprivileged kids in Thailand with homes, food, education and future pathways, so they can live a life of choice, not chance. Many children live with Hands Across the Water because they have no known family to care for them, or they have a family member who is known to them but is unable to care for them, or they are living in an unsafe environment and have been placed in the charity's care by the police or government.

Providing life-saving necessities and opportunities

Funds raised for Hands Across the Water is used to provide the life-saving necessities for the kids in its care and, importantly, supporting many families in an outreach program keeping kids out of the homes.

The charity measures its impact on the choices their kids have when it's time to leave Hands Across the Water. The charity believes that children deserve the chance to build a future full of possibilities, opportunities, and dreams.

Just as important as filling their bellies with healthy food, the charity's role is to help them see the opportunities that lie before them.

Hands Across the Water is embracing equity

Hands Across the Water embraces equity by understanding and appreciating the uniqueness of each child in their care, and respecting their individual circumstances that create barriers to success.

With these differences comes the need for specific resources and opportunities. Hands Across the Water's focused efforts ensures a bright and equal future for these children.
