Accelerate Action campaign sees Rory Walker lend support through creative lettering
Creatives play an important role in elevating International Women's Day (IWD) through helping amplify awareness raising. Via their creative contributions, audiences worldwide are engaged through collective action to help forge gender equality.
Each year the IWD Lettering Challenge, in association with the global Typism community, calls for creative designs that support an annual IWD focus and showcase the impressive talent of creators.
Make sure you check out the brilliant Typism 100, a directory that helps lettering artists attract new clients through showcasing their skills to a wider audience.
Here, we shine a spotlight on Rory Walker and showcase his support for gender equality awareness raising via his wonderful IWD 2025 Acceleration Action design.
Smashing through a glass ceiling

Through his design, Rory wanted to convey a dynamic force smashing through a barrier, a glass ceiling.
"It was important to create an upward momentum from a strong foundation so that the glass shards could be recognized as a ceiling, and the force as a groundswell of community support," explains Rory.
To create the design, Rory worked with pencil and paper to explore concepts before creating the final artwork in Adobe Illustrator.
Creating a positive force for women's rights

For Rory, #AccelerationAction means to break down economic, educational, medical, and other institutional barriers that prevent women internationally from accessing the quality of life that they deserve.
"The support systems in place are failing, and any delay has a massive impact on millions of women. I hope that change can come sooner," says Rory.
Rory adds that International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women and champion their stories, while also acknowledging their sacrifices and ongoing oppression, directing this awareness into a positive force for women's rights.
