Guild Esports helps Accelerate Action for gender equality in gaming

Did you know that while 47% gamers are women, only 5% make it as esports pros?

Guild Esports has been helping to Accelerate Action and empower women to game competitively by supporting the UK’s first-of-its-kind women's only esports initiative.

Guild Esports stands at the forefront of competition and entertainment with its top-tier esports teams, award-winning campaigns supporting women in gaming, and its exclusive collaborations with exciting brands.

As a leading global esports organisation, Guild Esports is working to pave the way for a better, more inclusive industry that provides opportunities for everyone who loves gaming.

Driving gender equality in gaming

Guild Esports and Sky Broadband invited women to compete in the Racers Eseries and the Soccer Eseries.

The Racers Eseries provided women with an opportunity to get behind the wheel and battle it out to see who can take pole position as the fastest sim racer in the UK; while the Soccer Eseries elevated women in esports, providing a significant leap toward professional recognition and expanding the field of competitive gaming.

Qualifiers of the Racers and Soccer Eseries secured a place in the Women’s Esports Finals - a first-of-its-kind, groundbreaking esports event held at Sky headquarters. Winners of the tournament walked home with a pro contract from Guild Esports, a portion of the £50,000 prize pot and free Sky Broadband for 24 months.

The event was live streamed on Sky Sports and Guild Esports’ YouTube channels hosted by renowned esports presenter Frankie Ward.

Advancing gaming careers

The winners of the tournament were Grete Lajal and Mariam Musa, two women from London, UK. Through their pro contracts, Grete and Mariam received access to top-class facilities and opportunities to connect with other professionals and sponsors as they develop their skills. The winners also received support from experts including the setting of KPIs to guide their progress, coaching and mentorship to help develop their competitive play.

The tournament marked a significant milestone in the journey towards a more inclusive esports industry. By empowering women to game competitively and showcase their skills in such a high-profile finale, Guild Esports and Sky Broadband are driving equality in gaming and esports while shaping the future of the industry.

Sharing advice from the pros

To help inspire competitors, Guild Esports and Sky Broadband invited Women's Esports Finals ambassador David Beckham, alongside Rachel Daly, Lisa Manley and Alia Harvey, to share the components of what it takes to become a pro - sacrifice, dedication and the routines that keep them at an elite level.
