Host of The Flourish Club shares a fabulous Give To Gain calligraphy design
Creatives of any gender can play an important role in elevating International Women's Day (IWD) through helping amplify awareness raising.
Via their creative contributions, audiences worldwide are engaged through collective action to help forge gender equality.
Each year the IWD Lettering Challenge, in association with the global Typism community, calls for creative designs that support an annual IWD focus and showcase the impressive talent of creators.
Here, we shine a spotlight on one creative, Robert Bree, and showcase their fabulous IWD 2026 Give to Gain design.
Creating flourished lettering
Robert Bree is a lettering artist from Munich, Germany who specializes in creating flourished artwork around letters.
“Typism called for creative ideas for this year’s theme Give to Gain in honor of the upcoming International Women’s Day,” said Robert, introducing his IWD lettering design created in his flourished style.
He specializes in teaching, with a focus on simplifying the art of flourishing for all skill levels, emphasizing three "Golden" forms: spirals, loops, and S-curves.
His work focuses heavily on creating intentional, balanced, and elegant flourishes, often using pencil for structured, drawing-based practice rather than only free-form strokes.
A global community of calligraphers
Robert is the host of The Flourish Club, a global community that shares his passion for flourishing. Through The Flourish Club, Robert shares tips, tricks, tutorials and inspirations for calligraphers and letterers.
“The Flourish Club is a space for anyone with a passion for flourishes. You are a letterer, a calligrapher or a handwriter, the passion for these beautiful curves brings us all together," explains Robert.
Robert started the club in April 2021 on Instagram during the pandemic. With the support of calligrapher Miranda Songer, it soon became popular within the international creative community.
The Club features new artists on Instagram that followers can get to know, which helps bring people together in what Robert describes as “our anonymous online world."
The Club also runs monthly challenges, which are open to anyone regardless of experience, where artists are set the task of creating a letter, a word, or a quote in their choice of tool and style.
Translating creativity into communication
Robert adds: “I believe everyone is creative - through expression, emotion, and resonance. My craft allows me to translate that creativity into a universal language. I am drawn to forms that carry elegance, grace, and clarity - shapes that speak through simplicity. Inspired by works that reveal so much with so little, I strive to create that same intensity myself, with both heart and mind, stroke by stroke."
"Each curve and line reflects my personality and my desire to touch and inspire others. For me, creativity is a search for meaning in every detail - and an ongoing exchange with those who share this passion, transforming inspiration into connection and fulfilment,” says Robert.
He is a featured artist, recognised speaker, and guest in the calligraphy community, including appearances on the Typism Summit and The Life of Letters podcast.
