Her Game Too: Giving fans of gender equality something to cheer about
Sexism in sport is not a thing of the past.
92% of female football fans say they have witnessed sexism - in most cases suffering it personally. A stark reminder that equality is something that still needs addressing urgently.
This is the mission driving Her Game Too, a volunteer‑led movement founded in 2021 to challenge sexism and create an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of gender, can participate in sport without fear of harassment or discrimination.
Her Game Too is an award-winning campaign tackling sexism in sport, including football, rugby, cricket and ice hockey. The group partners with over 70 professional clubs across the United Kingdom to promote gender equality through education, advocacy, and a network of ambassadors.
Through visibility, empowerment, and education, Her Game Too is demonstrating that when we give support to women and girls in sport, we all stand to gain a brighter future.
Giving Visibility, Gaining Respect
Her Game Too is bringing women and girls into the spotlight across the country through dedicated International Women's Day fixtures.
At Hartlepool United, the club is celebrating female supporters by giving them the opportunity to walk out alongside their favourite player on matchday.
By putting women and girls at the centre of the matchday, perceptions begin to shift about who belongs in football, gaining respect for women at every level of the game.
Giving Confidence, Gaining Diversity
Working closely with partner clubs, Her Game Too are helping create welcoming environments that make women and girls feel confident, valued, and excited to be part of the sport.
At Bristol Rovers more than 100 tickets are being gifted to grassroots girls’ teams to attend the game, with opportunities to be flag‑bearers and take part in laps‑of‑honour.
When women and girls feel safe, welcome, and supported, football gains a richer, more diverse community.
Giving Education, Gaining Inclusivity
Through school partnerships and community engagement, Her Game Too is encouraging young people to understand respect in sport.
Weston-super-Mare AFC are running a gender‑equality kit‑design competition with local schools, which not only sparks creativity, but also starts vital conversations about gender equality from an early age.
By giving the next generation the tools to understand inclusivity, communities gain a stronger, fairer future where everyone feels they belong.
Giving Forward to Gain a Future of Belonging
This International Women’s Day, the message is clear, we all share a responsibility to challenge discrimination and champion inclusivity.
When fans give respect, when volunteers give time, when clubs give platforms and opportunities, we all gain a safer, fairer, more inspiring future for football, one where everyone truly has something to cheer about.
