What does Women in Research give to gain gender equality?

By Jessica Sage, Executive Director, Women in Research

Gender equality isn't a zero-sum game.

The more we all give, be it recognition, access, education, or opportunity, the more everyone collectively gains.

At Women in Research (WIRe), a global nonprofit that has championed women in the research, data, and analytics sectors for more than 18 years, that's not just a belief. It's the foundation of everything we do.

So what exactly does WIRe give?

We give pathways to leadership because representation at the top changes everything.

Awareness of the gender gap in senior leadership isn't enough. Women face a demonstrably steeper climb to the C-suite, and the solution isn't patience — it's intentional investment.

WIRe's WIRexec program supports women already in leadership with community and skill- building that's built for the real, often hard-won challenges of leading at the highest levels.

Our C-Track program combines mentorship, network-building, and executive knowledge to advance rising female leaders into senior roles. These aren't motivational programs. They're strategic investments in the careers of the women who will lead our industry forward.

“We all need spaces where we can resource each other as we learn how to evolve and grow in our own careers and lives. WIRexec is that space for women pursuing high-level careers in market research. I left the event changed and more connected to the women in our industry who are making big things happen,” says Arianne Larimer, WIRe Community Member.

We give financial literacy because knowledge is power

One of the most persistent and underappreciated barriers to gender equality is the financial literacy gap. Research consistently shows that women who understand money — how to negotiate compensation, build wealth, manage risk, and plan for retirement — are better equipped to advocate for themselves, pursue leadership, and stay in the workforce long-term.

That's why we created Finance Foundations, a 10-part professional development program designed to give women (and their colleagues of all genders) a comprehensive grounding in both personal and corporate finance. From reading financial statements to building sound business plans, from budgeting to retirement planning, Finance Foundations delivers the practical knowledge that turns financial confidence into career momentum. When women understand the financial landscape, they don't just survive in it — they shape it.

“The mission behind this program—addressing the financial education gap that disproportionately affects women—is both necessary and timely. The statistics shared about the wage gap and retirement savings shortfall underscore why programs like this matter. WIRe has created something that goes beyond employer-based professional development to provide support that women can carry throughout their careers,” explains a WIRe Community Member.

We give visibility — because you can't be what you can't see

Representation shapes aspiration. When women see others who look like them succeeding, they believe it's possible for them too. WIRe actively spotlights women making an impact in the research industry, celebrating their achievements, amplifying their voices, and ensuring their contributions don't go unrecognized. Our 50/50 conference initiative works with industry conference organizers to ensure women’s expertise is taken seriously and highlighted on stages across the world.

We give community — because no one advances alone

From our award-winning mentor program to our educational networking events in 30+ cities globally, we know that community momentum is everything when it comes to tackling systemic issues such as gender-based inequality. We don’t compete, we collaborate. We believe there’s room at the table for everyone, and we actively work to encourage women to lift each other up and create opportunities for the advancement of all women in our industry.

“WIRe is one of the few spaces where I feel truly seen, heard, and encouraged to grow without judgment. The honesty in the conversations, the shared journeys, and the genuine care among the women make it easy to stay involved. I’m drawn to WIRe because it reminds me that I’m not walking my personal or professional journey alone,” comments a WIRe Nairobi Community Member.

The return on investment is real

When women gain financial literacy, retention improves. When they gain leadership pathways, pipelines diversify. When they gain visibility, cultures shift. These aren't soft benefits; they're competitive advantages with measurable outcomes for organizations and for the industry as a whole.

For International Womens Day and beyond, WIRe invites you to give to gain along with us — be it your time, your support, your advocacy, or simply your recognition of the women around you. Because when we give intentionally, we all gain enormously.
