Charlotte Sista C Ferrell

Holistic Health & Creative Arts radio host, poet & filmmaker helping create age-friendly cities

Charlotte "Sista C" Ferrell’s writing career began around age four when her grandmother let her stuff little love notes in letters to family members.

Growing up in Kansas City, Charlotte Sista C Ferrell MA RDN contributed articles to school newspapers and a community newsletter.

She helped pay for her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Wayne State University with freelance writing on food, nutrition, and social issues.

Writing, speaking, and mentoring  have been consistent components of her various career positions, such as Registered Dietitian for regional and local community nutrition programs; Health Promotion Consultant for an international health department; University Faculty Member;  HIV Educator and Program Developer; Creative Arts and Poetry Group.

Leader for sobriety and anger management programs: University Faculty Member.

Her food and lifestyle articles have been published in Essence Magazine, the Toronto Sun, The Globe and Mail, Foodservice and Hospitality Magazine, and the Milk Calendar (some under Charlotte Bonds). Two of her films have won festival awards and she is included in ten anthologies.

When an icy car crash caused a disruptive brain and back injury, Charlotte’s career was disrupted several years while she worked with holistic practitioners in Toronto and Los Angeles. The painful journey back to nearly optimum health generated two poetry “writebooks” and a new persona, “Sista C”.  Currently, she enjoys participating in creative hubs of writers, speakers and filmmakers .

She is host/producer for a senior-led podcast PoweredbyAge.com, approaching its 100th episode, and a 3 year old radio show, SULUAU (Speak Up, Listen Up, Act Up-on) streaming weekly on cjsf.ca. Creating age-friendly cities that respect and utilize older people’s reservoir of knowledge, skills and creativity.
