Dr Berta Joncus

Voice, music, female rights, Britain, 18th century, slave trade

A Reader in Music at Goldsmiths, Berta is a world specialist on voice, 18th-century Britain, and the fight for women's rights through music and stage works.

With rich experience in public speaking and BBC radio broadcasting, she excels in bringing across complex ideas and histories to general audiences.

In her current research, she probes how, in Britain during the long 18th century, the rights and music of women and Africans are entangled. For more about Berta, please see her Goldsmiths staff page and personal web page.
