Susanne Althoff

Author of new book Launching While Female: Smashing the System That Holds Women Entrepreneurs Back

Susanne Althoff is an assistant professor at Emerson College in Boston, where she teaches publishing entrepreneurship and women’s media, and is an adviser to women-led startups. Before she became a professor, she had a two-decade career as a magazine editor. Her last post was editor of The Boston Globe Magazine.

Althoff’s new book LAUNCHING WHILE FEMALE: Smashing the System That Holds Women Entrepreneurs Back is based on more than 100 interviews she did with women and nonbinary entrepreneurs across the United States. The book exposes entrepreneurship’s gender gap and proposes ways to make the entrepreneurial space more inclusive and equitable.

Althoff frequently speaks on how to knock down the obstacles faced by women entrepreneurs, how to be a better ally for underrepresented entrepreneurs, and the benefits of a more inclusive and equitable entrepreneurial space (namely, more jobs and innovation). Attendees of her talks leave with action plans they can begin implementing immediately.
