Aminah Rahman

Award-winning spoken word poet and spoken word artist delivering memorable, thought-provoking performances

Aminah Jasmine Rahman is an award-winning poet and spoken word artist born and raised in Cambridge.

Aminah addresses themes of identity, mental health, and popular culture in her writing.

Aminah was shortlisted to perform at the Roundhouse Poetry Slam London Heat in May 2024, a competition that brings together emerging spoken word artists across the United Kingdom to compete for a cash prize and the title of Slam Champion.

She has performed at notable events, including the England and Wales Cricket Board’s first-ever Iftar at Lord’s Cricket Ground in 2022, and the BBC Make a Difference Awards ceremony in 2023.

She was commissioned by BBC Asian Network to write and perform a poem celebrating 50 years of Bangladeshi independence. Aminah has also contributed to BBC Radio, including Radio 4, Cambridgeshire, and more.

"Spoken word poetry has ignited my love for performing. The emotion, rhythm, and energy has given me a powerful platform to express myself authentically, through embodying different personas and voices while remaining true to myself. The freedom of spoken word - where passion and storytelling collide - has deepened my love for the art of performance. Every time I step onto a stage or stand before a microphone, I feel the weight of my words burst into the air and watch them land — whether that's in the form of a nod, snapping fingers, or a room holding its breath," says Amina.
