Ellie Hughes is a passionate advocate for empowering women and fostering inclusivity in the workplace. As the Chair of the ASIS Ottawa Women in Security Committee, Ellie is committed to uplifting women in their roles, ensuring every voice is heard, and creating spaces where individuals can thrive.
Ellie’s career began with 15 transformative years as a Police Officer in the UK, where she honed her skills in communication, problem-solving, and building trust within diverse communities. Driven by a deep desire to create positive change, she dedicated her career to making a real difference in the lives of others.
In 2010, after becoming a mother, Ellie experienced a shift in her priorities and made the courageous decision to leave law enforcement to pursue a new path. This decision led her to Volkswagen Financial Services, where she transitioned into a sales role—not for financial gain but out of a passion for understanding others and delivering impactful solutions. It was here that Ellie discovered the power of empathy, active listening, and tailored problem-solving in achieving true success.
Ellie’s journey of transformation continued in 2022, when she and her family embraced the opportunity to move to Canada. Leaving behind the familiarity of their home country, Ellie faced the challenge of starting over in a new place. Through resilience, networking, adaptability, and determination, she found her footing and now leads Sales for a security company in Eastern Canada and is the Women in Security Chair for Ottawa ASIS Chapter. This role not only enables her to make meaningful contributions to her new community but also allows her to connect with and learn from the remarkable people of Canada.
Through her journey of career shifts, international relocation, and personal growth, Ellie has become a source of inspiration. She is passionate about helping others embrace change, overcome challenges, and unlock their potential. Whether it’s helping her son adjust to a new school, supporting her husband in his new role, or sharing her story with others, Ellie embodies resilience and the power of staying true to one’s values.
