Book IWD Speaker: Kate Muir
Author of "Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause" & Producer of "Davina McCall: Sex, Myths & The Menopause"
Kate Muir has spent her career pushing conversations about women’s health into the light. She began as Chief Film Critic at The Times, a role she held from 2010 to 2017, where she championed female-led stories and joined the board of Reclaim the Frame to support women in film. Her activism deepened in 2018 when she worked with Time’s Up UK, focusing on gender equality across the creative industries. This early work sharpened her voice as a campaigner and set the stage for the shift that defined her later career.
From 2020 onwards, Kate became one of the most influential figures in menopause and hormone health advocacy. As a founding member of The Menopause Charity, she helped create a platform that supports women seeking clarity and reliable information. Her most visible impact came through her documentaries for Channel 4. In 2021, she produced Davina McCall: Sex, Myths and the Menopause, followed by Sex, Mind and the Menopause in 2022; both transformed public understanding of HRT and the lived experience of menopause. Viewers often cite these films as the moment they first recognised their symptoms or felt confident seeking treatment. In 2023, she expanded this work into reproductive health with Davina McCall’s Pill Revolution, exploring the contraceptive pill’s benefits, risks, and myths. One example that illustrates her influence is the documented rise in women accessing HRT after the first menopause film aired, a shift widely credited to the documentary’s clear and relatable storytelling.
Alongside her screen work, Kate has become a bestselling author. Her books Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause (2022) and Everything You Need to Know About the Pill (2024) take complex medical information and make it accessible. In 2025, she added How to Have a Magnificent Midlife Crisis, a warm and practical guide that reframes midlife as a period of confidence and expansion.
Her authority, openness, and willingness to include men in the conversation have made her a sought-after speaker for International Women’s Day. Organisations bring her in because she not only explains the science; she connects it to culture, workplace wellbeing, and gender equity. Companies such as Lloyds, Bloomberg and the Ministry of Defence have invited her to speak, as have the NHS and leading universities including Cambridge and Queen’s Belfast. Her talk, Menopause for the Boardroom, helps leadership teams understand how supportive policies improve retention, morale and long-term performance.
Kate offers clarity at a time when women’s health is finally receiving global attention. She brings evidence, empathy and a strong call to action, making her an ideal choice for International Women’s Day events.
