Book IWD Speaker: Theresa Miller

Empowering women to step up to the microphone to make their voices heard

Theresa Miller is a media and presentations skills trainer, former journalist and author of Speak Up - how to be a successful presenter and media spokesperson. (New South Books March 2026).

She has coached people from all industries to share their expertise and experience with a wider audience - either through interviews with a journalists or when speaking on a panel, podcast, presentation or pitch.

The Women In Media Gender scorecard found that less than a third of the experts quoted in Australian media coverage are women. The percentage is far lower when the topics are sport or finance.

Theresa is passionate about seeing more women and women from diverse backgrounds step up to the microphone to share their vision, insights, wisdom and experience, so we better reflect the society we live in.

In her TM Media training workshops Theresa reveals what journalists are looking for in 'good media talent', how to craft key messages that cut through with the audience, and importantly how to stay on track when the reporter tries to derail the interview with their own agenda.

Speaking up is not just about confidence; it's about having the right tools and knowledge to successful handle an interview or presentation.

As a former journalist, who used these tricks to report news, Theresa is now handing the keys back to subject matter experts - particularly women.
