Abbey Holmes

A household name in the AFLW and a key figure in the AFL media

Abbey Holmes is a household name in the AFLW and is increasingly becoming a key figure in the AFL media.

She also appeared on the hit reality TV show, Survivor (2019). After playing in the inaugural AFLW season & winning the inaugural AFLW premiership, sadly a career ending injury prevented Abbey from continuing with the Crows.

Abbey has now set her sights on expanding her reach beyond sport. She is is a regular in media & reporting as well as co-directing & hosting her own show, Into the Outback with Abbey Holmes.

Having now accomplished the highest achievement in the AFLW, Holmes is beginning to establish herself as a household name in the AFL world as she covers the sport at both VFL and AFL level with Channel 7. Abbey is also a regular panelist on the Marngrook Football Show where she provides commentary and in-depth analysis on the game as it stands. Her extensive football career, in conjunction with her highly influential and confident personality, makes her a very favourable figure when reporting.

Abbey’s football career came to light during her time in the Northern Territory Football League where she famously became the first woman to kick 100 goals in a season. As a star forward and midfielder, Holmes led the league’s goal kicking tally on four occasions. Such performances and reputation lead to her Adelaide Crows recruitment ahead of the 2017 inaugural AFLW season.

After a stellar season from the Adelaide Crows, Abbey is now an AFLW premiership player. In the inaugural 2017 season, Holmes played 8 games where she finished in the club’s top 5 in score assists, contested possession, contested marks and hard-ball gets. Abbey’s combination of skill and physicality allows her to effectively play as a key midfielder/forward. Abbey’s best game of the 2017 season came against the Dockers in round 4 where she had a season-high of 15 disposals, 3 tackles and a goal.

Abbey is continuously impacting both landscapes of the AFLW and broader AFL media. She continuously strives to open more opportunities and excel in all of her works.
